Tourists to the popular seaside resort of Kemah, Texas, now have a new way to discover the boardwalk and nearby attractions—a self-serve kiosk delivered in 2013 by Livewire Digital. The kiosk opens up lines of communication between visitors and local businesses and attractions by giving users instant access to information about activities, from boat and amusement rides to shopping, waterfront dining and seasonal festivals.
“Reports are that visitors to Kemah have been searching out the kiosk to find out what’s happening locally,” says Livewire Digital’s V.P. Sales & Business Development, Linda Gilbert. “Our eConcierge® CMS allows for information presented on the kiosks to be organized in categories so users are able to easily find what is available in the area. With the integration of Google Maps, they are able to get directions as well as discover new activities and resources. We are glad to provide such a practical interface where tourists can take advantage of all the town has to offer.”
The kiosk is designed not only for ease of use but also to work in an outdoor environment on the gulf coast of Texas and withstand heavy storm damage the coastal town is vulnerable to. In 2008 Hurricane Ike, a Category 5 storm, caused a 7-foot surge, knocking out the carousel and the arcade and pushing a house a quarter-mile away off its foundation. To preserve the town’s investment, Livewire Digital chose EuroTouch Kiosks of Dayton, OH, for the housing for the kiosk, who provided a model consisting of outdoor-worthy anodized aluminum, which is now securely anchored in the sidewalk at a busy corner of the resort. Livewire Digital supplied the customized system, including the kiosk software and touch screen interface, which helps tourists find what they’re looking for.
Livewire Digital’s eConcierge®-powered kiosks and digital signs have been in the marketplace for 15 years. The City of Kemah is one of the latest installations. Other installations of Livewire’s interactive kiosk applications of note include New York City, Colonial Williamsburg, and Foxwoods Casinos. Livewire Digital is also the software vendor for the new, popular ChargeItSpot, a free cell phone charging kiosk.
